Urban Jewel was our project for the Disney Imaginations competition hosted by Walt Disney Imagineering. A competition created to have students design, deliver and present our concepts to a live audience of Imagineers. Our team was awarded 3rd place finalist.
This competition would open doors for a diverse group like us to find a space within the entertainment industry. Before this experience, Disney Imagineering was just a dream about being able to create thematic immersive experiences that make people all over the world happy. Through this opportunity I was able to obtain a concept design and UX internship at Walt Disney Imagineering, but due to the pandemic these dreams would be postponed until further notice.

My Role:
As a User Experience Designer I've been motivated to find problems in society and follow the design process to ideate solutions that are applicable to any outlet. For this project I've noticed a huge disconnect between my relationship with Savannah and being able to impact the land in a positive way. UX has taught me to work through the complicated problems all while keeping the needs of others in mind.
Throughout this project I've put the stress on being able to solve a societal problem and use our mediums to tell the story of the people of Savannah in unity. We found a way to create transparency and connect people in a public space. I pushed my teammates to go out into the real world to experience the mental blockage of trying to communicate and understand the perspective of a "local". This approach helped my teammates reflect as it reminded them of the humanistic voice and approach to the project. I was able to serve as a bridge to research, the problem and design process.
I worked hard with my teammates to make sure our story flows within the presentation, the user's journey through the procession of our square, and even in the small details of our renderings. I was able to craft the visuals in our presentation, compositional elements, logo and aided the ideation phase. I felt the happiest when bouncing off ideas with my teammates and pushing for something creative but with heart.

Collaboratively we've been able to piece our perspectives and merge them to form the Urban Jewel: a piece that combines all of our individual passions, our perspective on Savannah and a story that we can now share.
